Anthony Baker secured a job as a financial controller through our offshore team. He is ACCA qualified, has three years’ experience working as a finance manager for the NHS, and prior to accountancy ran his own haulage business. In this interview Anthony answers a few questions about his skills and career.1. Has this role met your expectations based on the job description and recruitment process? Is it what you thought it would be like?On the whole, most aspects of the role are what I expected based on the job description and interview process. Some of the challenges that I would face were made clear to me, but of course you never quite know what to expect until you start.2. How is your previous experience helping you in the role?I am finding many of the skills that I have acquired throughout my time as finance manager for the NHS useful to this role, in particular dealing effectively with the challenges that a highly complex organisation brings. For example, being able to combine information from multiple sources.3. What made you consider a move to the Falklands?It seemed like an excellent opportunity to advance my career and provide my family with a new and exciting adventure, as well as a better quality of life.4. How was MP Offshore able to help in the process?Emily Nunes from MP Offshore was extremely helpful, proactive and professional throughout the whole recruitment process and has continued to be a great support since I took up the post.5. How do you see your role evolving?Once I get more established in the role and within the company, I would like to implement further system changes and help drive the business forward.6. What is the work environment like?The office environment is very professional with diligent staff members.7. What has been the biggest surprise since you started?I have been surprised by how welcoming and accepting of me my team members have been and I am also impressed by their willingness to learn new things and accept changes.8. What is the best thing about working there so far?I think the best thing is being able to bring about change.9. Why do you think you were chosen for the role?I think it was possibly due to my strong business acumen and being extremely driven to succeed, despite all the odds!10.
