Using ISO 20400 to Drive Supply Chain Value and Resilience events – November 2016

On 10th November in Birmingham and the 17th November in London, Michael Page Procurement and Supply Chain will be holding a briefing session where Action Sustainability's Director Shaun McCarthy OBE will be giving attendees the inside track on ISO 20400.
Action Sustainability is leading the UK's delegation in creating ISO 20400 - the new international standard for sustainable procurement. With a strong connection to the existing British Standard for sustainable procurement BS8903 (for which Action Sustainability were the technical authors appointed by BSI) the new standard will bring value beyond the procurement and purchasing community. It will help embed and disseminate sound sustainability practices throughout supply chains, and ultimately the entire economy, leading to greater resilience and ability to gain from positive opportunities.
Currently out for consultation, ISO 20400 will standardise guidelines and principles for all stakeholders working with internal and external purchasing processes – including contractors, suppliers, buyers, and government authorities – as part of an effort to demonstrate good practices for sustainable purchasing and gain business benefits.

About Shaun McCarthy

Shaun McCarthy OBE is a Director of Action Sustainability. He is Chair of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, a collaborative initiative in the UK construction and built environment industry to increase the sustainability competence of the supply chain. He was Chair of the independent Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 Olympics and is the UK’s representative on the ISO committee that is developing the new international standard for sustainable procurement - ISO 20400.  In addition to this, Shaun is Board advisor to Tarmac where he acts as sustainability expert advisor to the quarrying and manufacturing business.  Prior to Action Sustainability, Shaun spent 11 years as a senior procurement manager for BAA PLC and he is also a fully qualified procurement and environmental management professional, holding MCIPS and MIEMA qualifications
