About us

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) is tackling the challenges that matter to the people who live and work in the region. At the heart of the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority's work is a commitment to addressing the climate and ecological emergency, and helping residents access decent jobs and affordable homes.

The MCA provides residents with access to new skills, training, and job opportunities, as well as supporting businesses to thrive, and improving the region's housing and transport infrastructure.

Our key areas of work:

1. Transport: Improving transport infrastructure and services to reduce congestion and improve air quality.

2. Economy and Business: Supporting businesses and entrepreneurs to grow and thrive, and promoting economic growth and job creation.

3. Skills and Education: Improving education and skills training to meet the needs of local employers and to support economic growth.

4. Housing and Regeneration: Increasing the availability of homes that people can afford in communities they are proud to call home.

5. Environment, Nature and Climate: Tackling the climate and ecological emergency by becoming a net zero carbon region and halting the decline of the natural environment by 2030. The MCA is also enabling regional resilience, by ensuring our people and economy are supported in adapting to the impacts of climate change.

6. Culture and Tourism: Supporting the region's cultural and tourist attractions, and backing the creative and cultural industries.

7. Governance and Partnerships: Building partnerships and collaborations with local authorities, businesses, and communities to deliver shared goals and priorities.

Learning and development

The MCA is committed to equality of opportunity in employment and to support work practices that support employee development. We aspire to be both a learning organisation where development is actively encouraged and to make sure we meet our responsibilities to all employees to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
