The state of the technology market: A snapshot

As the UK has continued to face economic struggle through 2024, we anticipate this will ease up as we move into 2025 as the promise post-election for businesses is much stronger than what we saw at the start of the year previous. While businesses grapple with AI readiness and data analysis challenges, there's a pressing need for talent in the technology market that can bridge this gap.

The rise of AI-savvy professionals

Although 27% of Technology professionals working across industries say they already use AI in their current roles, one trend we’re seeing across many businesses is lacking AI-readiness. And so, there’s a demand for candidates and employees who can best prepare them for the next technological wave, apply AI solutions to real-world problems and drive business goals.

One key area AI has already been adopted in many technology organisations includes the processing of data, however, the gap that remains is employees with the ability to analyse and advise using this data, implementing effective data strategies.

As such, a focus area for many businesses in 2025 will be to upskill, reskill, or hire more employees who not only have technical ability but experience in applying that to real-world scenarios.

Encouragingly, there is a strong appetite among employees to learn about AI across the Technology market, with 98% expressing a desire to enhance their AI literacy. Their motivations span reasons including:

  • To adapt to new roles in the future (77%);
  • To improve their efficiency and productivity (76%);
  • With half thinking it will impact their long-term career plans and therefore impact their chances of being hired in their industry.

Beyond AI, businesses are also prioritising growth, cost reduction, and operational efficiency. Companies continue to look for a way to uplevel the way they work with data; interpreting and streamlining this to quicken decision-making and encourage a more efficient working environment. This is driving a demand in the technology market for professionals skilled in data analysis, IT support and leaders in technology, and project management. As organisations seek to transform their operations, these roles will become increasingly essential.

The "Triangle of Success"

To excel in today's competitive technology market, tech professionals need a unique blend of skills. We refer to this as the "Triangle of Success":

Technical expertise: A high level of knowledge of relevant technologies and programming languages.

Industry knowledge: Deep insight into the specific industry or sector the business operates in.

Functional expertise: Real world understanding and advanced knowledge in a particular role or function within the technology field, with the ability to manage broader organisational roles.

This is what we’re seeing clients strive towards, aiming to find candidates who not only tick the technical boxes but have the industry and functional expertise too.
